The First Iran CanSat Competition (ICC2011) was organized and held by Aerospace Research Institute (ARI), in 2011. So far, 9 rounds of Iran's international Cansat competition have been held. This competition is the oldest competition in the field of space technology in Iran.
CanSat competition provides students with the opportunity to have practical experience in simulating a real small-scale space project and to promote teamwork among them. It mainly aims at establishing a unique platform for students in relevant fields to arise their scientific enthusiasm in order to demonstrate innovative and novel ideas, and to enhance their scientific and research activities. Furthermore, it aims at training expert and experienced students. 

The second Iranian CanSat Competition (ICC2012) was also organized and held by Aerospace Research Institute (former Astronautics Research Institute) in 2012. It contained two categories (classes): Standard and Free. The main missions of ICC2012 were measuring atmospheric parameters, capturing images/videos, and returning to predefined position. Side missions were antenna deployment and landing on airbags

The 3rd Iranian CanSat Competition (ICC2013) was organized and held by Aerospace Research Institute (former Astronautics Research Institute) in 2013. It contained two categories (classes): Classical and Professional. Four missions were designated in ICC2013. Two missions of classical class included: measuring atmospheric parameters and capturing images/videos. Two missions of professional class included: bio-capsule and returning to predefined position.

The 4th Iranian CanSat Competition (ICC2014) was also organized and held by Aerospace Research Institute (former Astronautics Research Institute) in 2014.  It contained two categories (classes): Classical and Professional. Four missions were designated in ICC2014. Two missions of classical class included: measuring atmospheric parameters and capturing images/videos. Two missions of professional class included: bio-payload recovery and returning to predefined position

The 5th Iranian CanSat Competition was held in 2017. It was organized by Aerospace Research Institute in collaborate with Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology.

The 6th Iranian CanSat Competition was held in 2018. It was also organized by Aerospace Research Institute in collaborate with Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology.
